Double wins and Three Team Magic E4RS III Plus on the top-4 at Rd 1 of Apeldoorn Club Championship

What a great week-end for Team Magic in Netherland, during the round 1 of club championship on the mythic track of Apeldoorn !

Double wins and Three Team Magic E4RS III Plus on the top-4 at Rd 1 of Apeldoorn Club Championship

Rob Janssen wins the race, Richard Arts joins him on the 2nd place on the Podium, while Ronald Arts finished on 4th position. Great Job !!

Original Report of Richard Arts:

Free Practise

First couple of batteries mainly used to get a feel for the balance of the car, and clear dust from the track and quickly noticed that the Diff Oil was a bit thick at the start of the  run, and was bit better after couple of minutes.

So changed to 2000, and this freed up the car in the corners, and was more consistent throughout the complete 7 min run. Then focus was on maximizing corner speed, tried couple of different spring combo’s, and roll-centers and tire-additive.

Rob switched to the progressive TM springs, and was happy with the change. I borrowed a set of him, but then track was closed to start the qualifying.

Qualifying

Took the gamble and started with the (for me) untested progressive spring, but warmup gave confidence. Was pleased with stable performance, and near faultless drive.

For 2nd qualy changed the dampers to 1 hole lower in the front. Seemed to work nicely in the 2 bumpy corners. Car was able to absorb the bumps a bit better, but progressive springs prevented car to have to much body-roll.

3rd qualifying I changed tire-additive, as track & air was cooling down. This worked out for me as I was able to take P1

Finals

Final 1: Started from 2nd spot on the grid, but was on the dusty side. I couldn’t hold-off the 3rd car from passing on the inside of the 1st corner. But 3rd corner I was on the inside, and back to 2nd spot. Couldn’d do more than follow Rob’s lead, and increase the gap to 3rd spot.

Final 2: Pretty much went down the same as the first final, Rob and me pulling away from the field

Final 3: I had more pressure from the 3 car this time. I was a bit struggling with the setting darkness, and made a mistake that allowed him to pass.

Overall

Really happy with the car, and having a quick and predictable setup. Car responds to setup changes really well, lots more to test and fine tune.

Looking forward to the Dutch Nationals race in 2 weeks.

Original Report of Rob Janssen:

It was great to be back on the outdoor track again after some indoor racing last winter. A few weeks ago we had our first outdoor test in the cold. Now we had the chance to do some more serious racing and testing.

This also was the first time we drove the Volante tires on our track which needs a little different set-up compared to the Ride tires we used last year. After a few runs I had a car which I felt comfortable with to start the qualifications.

After Q2 we had 3 TM cars in top 3 with me, Richard and Ronald (he tried my older upgraded car). In Q3 he lost his spot and ended up 4th on the grid. 3 cars in the top 4.

The first final ended for me with a tweaked/broken car in one of the last laps. I crashed into the nr. 10 car while lapping him. This resulted in Richard closing in very much on me as my car wanted to go right all the time. Final 2 and 3 were more easy.

I really need to improve my set-up with the car. It is a fast/good set-up but the tire wear was crazy. After 6 runs my front tires were gone.

On the bumpy high speed corners the car was a little tricky sometimes. Room for improvement 😉 ! But for sure a good start of the season !
