Novak Kinetic Tips

Hello drivers !

We did some race test sessions in the US with Brent Newman (Novak Elektronics) at OCRC track. Here are some ideas to increase your racing performance with the Kinetic:

Some other systems like LRP seems to have more topspeed when using same motor winding:

Novak standard is 0 timing at ESC. LRP and other systems still has timing in the standard program. Try to increase the ESC timing to bring it on the same speed level.

Heating rules:

Try always to increase ESC timing first before increasing motor timing. ESC offers flexible timing and is differerent to motor timing. Motor timing heat more than ESC timing.

Kinetic programm 4 and 5:

-Program 4* is mostly used to set the power level.
-Program 5* is mostly used to set the point at which RPM level the power has to be supplied.

*both has to be in perfect match with motor and track

ESC Cut off – motor winding choice:

There are two different reasons for a cut off of power decrease:
1. thermal – overheating  (power will not return during the run)
2. battery overpowered  (power will probably return in the same run)

Using higher turns will result in less current flow and will minimize the risk that ESC will cut off or loose power. Using a lower turn motor will increase torque and is specially used on smaller tracks where torque is needed. So first still try to use higher turns on Kinetic. The Kinetic timing programs are specially made to optimize the power level of higher turn motors. Only if torque is needed lower the motor winding.

Kinetic performance – Kinetic issues:

The Kinetic is made for professional drivers. It offers so many setups to optimize its performance. The Kinetic also offers a very high power current flow (probably higher current flow than other ESC) which can overload ESC and battery when the wrong setup is used. This is an advantage but unfortunately it makes is also more difficult to use. Lower current flow ESC are easier to use. Also with lower current flow ESC the risk of battery overload is lower. Battery overload will also result in heat! Still use high quality Lipo. All these things make racing very tricky.

Novak Ballistic motor quality

We visited the Novak factory. Each product and each ESC is tested before delivering. There are product barcodes on each product where the data’s are safed at Novak. Reasons for warranty issues are mostly « damage during transport ».

Novak Ballistic motors are « handwound ». Highest quality materials. You will see the difference when opening the motors. The Ballistic motor should be one of the best quality motors on the market. Many racers in the US are using them combined with different brand ESC. Each part of the motor can be replaced and is available seperately.

-Thicker magnets: more torque for smaller tracks. Wrong choice can result in more heat!
-Light weight magnets: for more RPM. less torque. Works better on higher RPM levels on big tracks. wrong choice can result in more heat!
-Ceramic bearings: better to replace the bearings than using ceramic.
